Need A Logo? Things You Should Know

Over the years we’ve seen many logos and some have been very good and others have needed work. When building websites we’ve come across situations where a client had to reengage with their logo designer (if that was not us) so we can get variations of their logo that will work better in various marketing and website layouts. This is no one’s fault but we want you to be ahead of the curve so you can take action as quickly as possible.

When it comes to your logo, whether you currently have one or not, there are generally five variations of your logo you want to keep in mind.

  • Primary Logo
  • All White Logo
  • All Black Logo
  • Stacked Logo (If this applies)
  • Icon or Square Logo

Let’s go through these variations and we’ll give you the reasons why you’ll want to have these.

Your primary logo speaks for itself, this is your brand with possibly an icon and/or a tagline included. This can and should be used a lot of the time on merchandise, headers, etc. if possible.

An all-white logo or all-black logo is a good option for print materials, or areas you want to put your logo regardless of what the background color or image is. They are also good if you need a watermark. These come in handy a lot more often than people realize so it’s best to have them created when your logo is created.

A stacked Logo is good when you need a compact version of your logo, but this is only necessary when your brand is multiple words and has an icon for the most part.

Square logos come in handy a lot, especially when you have social media accounts and have a profile picture. An icon can also work for profile pictures for various accounts but they are best for your favicon (the image that appears on the internet tab for your website). Icons are also great for brand recognition. Once you’ve built up that recognition your icon will be more famous than your name itself. Like Nike, Apple, and Starbucks, to name a few.
